About Fuel Poverty Action

Fuel Poverty Action (FPA) campaigns to end fuel poverty in the UK
We’re a group of ordinary people who are fed up with being robbed by greedy energy companies through spiralling bills, and landlords who rent out damp, uninsulated homes. We challenge rip-off energy companies and unfair policies that leave people in cold, damp homes.
Alongside trades unions, pensioners groups, disabled campaigners, tenants’ organisations and others on the frontline of fuel poverty, we use protest and direct action to fight for warm, well-insulated homes and clean and affordable energy, under the control of people and communities, not private companies.
FPA is led by our members, a diverse and growing group of people of all ages and backgrounds. We also have many supporters who promote our campaigns and keep in touch via our mailing list, and a small, decentralised staff team.
We care passionately about climate change, and want to see the UK’s energy system decarbonised as rapidly as possible, with a just transition for communities and workers. Renewable energy from the sun, waves and wind can be CHEAPER than gas and oil. Far from making us poorer, the transition away from fossil fuels will bring us more affordable energy, better housing, cleaner air, and will help keep down the cost of food by helping to stabilise the climate.
How do we campaign?
At local level – we support grassroots campaigners with information, publicity, connections to others and help to access to the corridors of power
In the media – we provide a platform for people to tell their stories to help build pressure for change. Go to Fuel Poverty Voices if you would like to contribute!
In coalition with national and international partners, we lobby for the scale of policy change needed to end fuel poverty
With trades unions and allies – we mobilise alongside anti-poverty and environmental campaigners as well as working with the trades union movement
We believe in people power and we are fighting for an energy system that is run for and by the people.
We think that together, we can win this.
